Welcome

St. Mark's Episcopal Church welcomes everyone to come and share in the worship of Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. We are a small yet diverse congregation situated in the northern section of Abilene. Our parishioners come from all walks of life and some travel from neighboring cities to worship here. At St. Mark's, we embrace the second most important commandment that Christ instituted - to love our neighbors as ourselves. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Episcopal Day - May 18th in Abilene

For the last several years, both Episcopal congregations in Abilene (St. Mark's and Church of the Heavenly Rest - our parent congregation who gave birth to us in the 1950s) get together once a year on the 3rd Sunday in May to celebrate our heritage in the Episcopal Church.

In previous years, Episcopal Day was held in Buffalo Gap at the Presbyterian Encampment. This year, the annual celebration will take place on the east lawn at Heavenly Rest.

An informal worship service will take place at 10:30 a.m. followed by a barbeque lunch hosted by the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Reservations are required. You can call Heavenly Rest's office for more information at 677-2091.

Message for May 2008

It is May already, seems like it was just New Year’s Day!  Where I grew up we had a delightful tradition of delivering May baskets on May 1.  We would fill a small basket with flowers and place them on the doorknob of a special person (we always did this for our elderly neighbor).  After placing the basket we would ring the bell and run around the corner of the house.  It was a great tradition.  We would get so excited we could not contain ourselves and Anna Russ, our special person, would know who left them by our giggling excitement.  Those were the days.  How nice it would be if we would pick some special person and start this tradition here.

Our Outreach Baby Room is filled and open.  Thanks to everyone is actively contributing in any way.  We have had three customers.  All three needed a crib, which at this time we do not have.  I am going to search garage sales and thrift stores for this item.  If you know of anyone who is ready to part with baby furniture please approach them about cribs, high chairs, swings, baby seats (not car seats as they all have these).  We can purchase them with baby room money.

I am looking forward to Episcopal Day this month, see the schedule for the date.  This joint service offers us a great opportunity to get together with our brothers and sisters at Heavenly Rest.  As we journey through these times of turmoil in our church it is especially important that we gather together, whether we have differences or not, with others and celebrate the joy and love we feel for our church.

Yours in Christ,

Peggy+
